While Siru and Marcus break into a London taker safehouse to steal the map of the eighteen Bridges, Harry Brown, Elsa Jones and Willy Jones edge toward the truth that Salugi has never told them what the cats are really for — and a song only Elsa remembers turns the night into a countdown none of them control.
In a Bloomsbury townhouse called Caesar's Room, Harry Brown's wall of maps and red string holds everything the takers know about the Good Luck Cats — and Siru Agar and Marcus Gray break in to photograph it before it can be moved. A hybrid guard-hound and an early return trap the intruders inside the walls of the house as Harry, Elsa and Willy work the map below them, inching toward a discrepancy in Salugi's story that not even they can explain. When Elsa sits at the piano and sings a melody she has no memory of learning, the house goes quiet enough that a single wrong move above could bring the ceiling down on all of them. The intruders escape with proof that the takers were never told about Acolal — but leave behind evidence of the break-in, and a mystery of their own: someone else has already been to a place on the map that Harry has never visited.
