Chapter 9 of 11 ·

Orbit Office — Heliopoly, centre

Orbit keeps a building in the middle of Heliopoly, and it is the only part of Alset's network you can walk into. A public counter on the ground floor, the trend floor above it, and the part nobody is shown higher than that.

What you can do there:

- Claim a handle. First come, and the short ones went long ago. Handles are tradeable, which means they are an asset, which means somebody is squatting the one you want. - Buy a tick. Verification is sold, not earned. It changes nothing about what you can say and everything about who believes it — a verified seller moves goods on the marketplace at a price an unverified one cannot ask. - Pay for reach. A promoted post, or, for a great deal more, a trend. The Umbrax Consortium advertises here. So does Banco Los Lobos. So, quietly, does the ferry trade. - File a takedown. Someone has posted a photograph with your face, or your cargo, or your cat in it. The counter will take the complaint. Whether it acts depends on who you are, and the clerk will not pretend otherwise. - Read the floor. The trend floor is a live board of what Heliopoly is talking about. Traders use it the way traders use any board, and the prices in Helioswap Market move with it.

The office is where the network stops being weather and becomes a counter with a person behind it — which is exactly why both hunts end up queuing in it.
